Lauren M. Carey











Lauren M. Carey is an associate at James-Bates-Brannan-Groover-LLP and practices in the fields of tax law and wealth planning. Ms. Carey joined the firm after practicing law in Miami, Florida.  Ms. Carey has devised asset protection structures and drafted complex estate plans for clients, both domestic and international and from a variety of backgrounds and cultures, to suit their diverse needs. Ms. Carey has represented clients in trust and corporate litigation, advised fiduciaries in trust administration and trustee succession planning, and assisted clients in pre-immigration planning and voluntary disclosures. Ms. Carey also has experience counseling clients in the formation and operation of various business entities.

Ms. Carey grew up in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. After graduating with a degree in architecture from Georgia Tech and studying in Italy, Ms. Carey worked as a commercial land development due diligence coordinator and facilities planner. At the University of Tennessee College of Law, Ms. Carey was the founding President of the UT ABA Real Property, Trust & Estate Division, a member of the Student Tax Law Association and the Environmental Law Association, Vice President of Phi Alpha Delta and the recipient of the academic excellence award for the Environmental Law Clinic. In addition, Ms. Carey studied International Institutions and Sustainable Development law in London, Paris, and Brussels and gained litigation experience at a national construction law firm in Atlanta. 

Ms. Carey holds a Masters of Law in Estate Planning from the University of Miami School of Law and a Masters of Law in Taxation, cum laude, from the University of Alabama School of Law.  Ms. Carey is licensed to practice law in Georgia and Florida.
