Biography

Kort graduated summa cum laude from Kennesaw State University with a B.S. in Communication.  While pursuing his J.D. at Washington & Lee University School of Law in Lexington, Virginia, he was a student attorney at the law school’s Community Legal Practice Center, assisting low-income clients with family law matters and basic estate planning.  Kort then attended the Georgetown University Law Center in Washington, D.C., where he received an LL.M. in Taxation.  He was in the first Graduate Tax class at Georgetown to receive Certificates in Estate Planning.

Kort focuses his practice on estate planning and tax law.  He assists clients with traditional testamentary planning as well as more sophisticated estate and business succession alternatives.  He has worked with clients to implement creative solutions for increasing flexibility in outdated trust documents while preserving advantageous transfer tax status.  He also assists clients in responding to IRS collection efforts and helps nonprofits select the best entity structure and apply for exemption.

Kort is a member of First Presbyterian Church.
